Latvian President Andris Berzins has said that Ukraine could join the European Union as soon as it demonstrates progress on the reform implementation process.

“I think if the community’s support is high enough and Ukraine manages to show progress in the sphere of reforms, then no one will hinder it from joining the EU,” he said at a joint press conference with Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych in Kyiv on Thursday.

“I think Ukraine will sign the Association Agreement, including Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area, with the EU in November in Vilnius [at the Eastern Partnership Summit],” he said.

In turn, Yanukovych praised Latvia’s contribution to the development of Ukraine’s relations with the EU.

“Without a doubt our Latvian partners make a significant contribution to the constructive development of a dialogue between Ukraine and the EU, which helps Ukraine to show better progress on its way towards European integration,” Yanukovych said.
