You're reading: Lawyer rejects reports of Kuchma’s detention in Kyiv

Viktor Petrunenko, the lawyer of second Ukrainian President Leonid Kuchma, has rejected reports of the alleged detention of Kuchma at Zhuliany Kyiv International Airport.

“This information is untrustworthy,” he told an Interfax-Ukraine reporter.

As reported, Kuchma went to Kharkiv to present graduates from Kharkiv Aviation Institute with diplomas and stipends of the presidential fund Ukraine.

Earlier, a little known Russian Web site reported, referring to some Ukrainian media, that Kuchma had allegedly been detained at the airport.

The airport’s press service told Interfax-Ukraine that it did not have any information on the issue.

The press services of the Prosecutor General’s Office of Ukraine said: “The press service of the Prosecutor General’s Office does not see any reason to comment on the reports, considering the sources that distributed them and Kuchma’s lawyers’ statements on the issue. If some sources reported this, then they should comment on it on their own. The press service does not have such information.”
