On the eve of his visits to Latin America, which starts on October 20, Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych may visit Brussels, head of the presidential administration Serhiy Liovochkin has said.

"Liovochkin said that on the eve of his tour [the president’s visits to Cuba and Brazil], on the morning of October 20, the president may visit Brussels," the official Web site of the head of state reported on Monday.

At the same time the Ukrainska Pravda Web site, with reference to its sources in the Regions Party, said that Yanukovych is not likely to go to Brussels. According to the sources, "the president was likely to cancel his visit to Brussels on October 20, realizing that the talks with the EU leadership will focus on the release of former Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko."

As reported, on October 11, the Pechersky District Court in Kyiv found Ukraine’s ex-prime minister and leader of the Batkivschyna party, Yulia Tymoshenko, guilty of exceeding her authority while signing gas contracts with Russia and sentenced her to seven years in prison. Tymoshenko was also banned from holding public office for three years.
