Lithuania has supplied the Ukrainian Armed Forces with equipment which was requested by Kyiv, spokesman for the anti-terrorist operation Andriy Lysenko has said.

“Defense Minister of Lithuania Juozas Olekas has confirmed that Lithuania handed over to the Ukrainian army elements of the military equipment which it requested,” Lysenko said at a briefing in Kyiv on Jan. 6.

According to him, Lithuania supports Ukraine and is ready to continue its assistance.

As reported, Olekas said on Monday that Lithuania has provided the Ukrainian military with equipment elements that Kyiv had previously requested.

“These military assets, as [Ukrainian President] Petro Poroshenko has described them handsomely, are elements of equipment, in other words, it is what the Armed Forces of Ukraine need,” the minister said, declining to provide further details.

“We support Ukraine and are ready to continue extending assistance to it,” Olekas said.

President Poroshenko told local media on January 4 that Lithuania had delivered on its promise, concerning its assistance for Ukraine.

“We have already received what our partners from Lithuania promised in terms of equipment. We have received the first batch of warm clothes, boots and equipment from Canada. We are also awaiting two airplanes. We have received a consignment from Poland and our other partners as well,” he said.

In November 2014, Lithuania and Ukraine agreed to cooperate in military-technological matters, including deliveries of “elements of equipment”, Poroshenko said then.
