BERLIN – German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier speaks out against dragging out the time of local elections in Donbas and calls for decisive actions.

“Local elections in eastern Ukraine cannot be delayed endlessly. They are a fundamental condition for peace to be finally established in eastern Ukraine and for democratically elected representatives, who enjoy support among people, to start working,” Steinmeier said in an exclusive interview with Interfax on the eve of his visit to Moscow.

“Security and political process are interrelated. We need to attain some progress in both fields. The time is running out for us,” he said.

Steinmeier is due to hold talks with Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov on March 23.
