You're reading: Loss from damage of railway infrastructure in east Ukrainian assessed at Hr 900 mln

 Railway infrastructure in Ukraine has been damaged due to armed hostilities in the eastern part of the country and tentatively the loss amounts to some Hr 900 million, the press service of Ukrzaliznytsia reported on Thursday, Sept. 4.

According to the report, the largest sum is required to restore tracks – Hr 33.6 million and repair overhead contact system and power supply equipment – Hr 334.1 million.

Stations, bridges, pedestrian crossings, bridges, passenger and cargo wagons, diesel locomotives, buildings and equipment were also damaged.

“Some facilities of railway infrastructure are still not observed as due to armed hostilities, as access to them is restricted,” reads the press release.

On the territories liberated from illegal armed groups railway workers using own forces restore tracks using temporary schemes, which allow starting movement of trains with restrictions in speed.

According to the report, as of early September, around 190 facilities of Donetsk, Pivdenna and Prydniprovska railways remained destroyed, and other facilities have been restored. Eight out of 17 engineering facilities (bridges, pedestrian crossings, overbridges, etc) have been restored.

Ukrzaliznytsia has spent over Hr 36 million of own funds to restore railway infrastructure.

According to the report, due to armed hostilities in the eastern part of Ukraine the base for repair and exploitation of railway equipment was damaged.
