Former Ukrainian Interior Minister Yuriy Lutsenko has submitted a statement to Prosecutor General Viktor Pshonka demanding that those responsible for his arrest, which was declared illegal by the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR), be called to account.

An Interfax-Ukraine reporter said that the ex-minister passed a respective statement at a court session on Tuesday to Kyiv’s Pechersky District Court Judge Hanna Medushevska, who is considering a criminal case on charges brought against Lutsenko regarding the poisoning of then presidential candidate Viktor Yuschenko.

In his statement, the former minister refers to the ECHR ruling recognizing that Lutsenko’s arrest violates his human rights. In this regard, Lutsenko demanded that the prosecutor general institute criminal proceedings against First Deputy Prosecutor General Renat Kuzmin and the judges who made the decision on his arrest and refused to change the measure of restraint. The judges are Serhiy Vovk, who earlier presided in the Lutsenko case, and Medushevska, who was a member of a panel of judges at that time.

Medushevska received the statement from the defendant and promised to pass it to the Prosecutor General’s Office “promptly.”
