You're reading: Lutsenko’s defense predicts ‘categorical’ decision by European Court on Ukraine

Valentyna Telychenko, a representative of former Ukrainian Interior Minister Yuriy Lutsenko in the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR), has predicted that the court will make a tough decision on Ukraine concerning Lutsenko's complaint.

"The hearing of Lutsenko’s case in the European Court of Human Rights is scheduled for April 17. I think that the court will take into account all of the facts… The decision on Ukraine will be very categorical," she said at a press conference in Kyiv on April 12.

Telychenko said that the concealment of the diagnosis of viral hepatitis by representatives of the State Penitentiary Service from Lutsenko could be qualified as an attempt on his life.

"Our complaint to the ECHR also concerns the violation of Article 2 of the European Convention on Human Rights, which deals with the guarantees of life. It also confirms the existence of political motives in the arrest and prosecution of Lutsenko," she said.
