The family of former Ukrainian Interior Minister Yuriy Lutsenko will not ask Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych for a pardon, but if the head of state pardons Lutsenko without a respective request, the ex-minister will not stay in jail, his wife and defense counsel, Iryna Lutsenko, has said.

“Nobody will cling to the bars, nobody will stay in prison,” she told reporters on Wednesday, when asked what Lutsenko will do if Yanukovych pardons him without a respective request from his family.

At the same time, she said that nobody would currently ask for a pardon.

Lutsenko also said that reports that their son was being pressurized to write a petition for a pardon are rumors.
