You're reading: Lutsk launches real-time public transport map

The western Ukrainian city of Lutsk has at least one achievement it can boast of that the country’s capital city cannot: it now has a real-time, interactive map of its public transportation system.

Launched
last week, the real-time map uses GPS technology to track the city’s 262 buses
running on 32 routes.

Users have
the option of viewing all bus routes at once, or isolating specific areas or
even a specific bus route, thus allowing residents to more accurately know when
their buses will arrive and determine the amount of time it will take to reach
their destination.

Lutsk is
the first regional center of Ukraine to equip its bus fleet with GPS and track
and collect data.

The web
version of the service is already available to users at
http://www.mak.lutsk.ua/guest. Plans are reportedly in the works to develop it
for mobile devices.
