Lviv - Lviv Regional Council has asked the government to provide an additional UAH 800 million from the state budget for repairs to local roads.

A total of 78 members of the regional council voted for passing a relevant appeal to the government of Ukraine at a meeting on Tuesday.

According to the document, budgets of various levels envisage UAH 200 million for road repairs in Lviv region, but this is not enough.

“The annual increase in motor traffic along the roads in Lviv region, adverse weather conditions, the lack of systematic repairs and the underfunding of the road sector have led to the destruction of the road network in Lviv region: potholes and bumps have formed on the surface of the roads. This resulted in traffic accidents involving fatalities, road congestions, the failure to provide residents with means of communication, and the closures of roads,” the appeal reads.

According to the regional council, UAH 200 million will cover only repairs to individual sections of national roads, local roads and streets.
