You're reading: Lytvyn: Most opposition deputies not fighting for Tymoshenko’s freedom

Most Ukrainian opposition politicians are fighting for seats on electoral rolls, rather than for the freedom of former Prime Minister and Batkivschyna Party leader Yulia Tymoshenko, Verkhovna Rada Speaker Volodymyr Lytvyn has said.

"I got the impression that those who describe themselves as opposition members need a process, rather than a solution. And let’s be honest that they are fighting for seats on electoral rolls, rather than for the freedom of Tymoshenko, except for her ardent supporters," he said in an interview with Channel 5 on Tuesday.

Lytvyn also said that some opposition deputies, "speaking loudly for the release of Tymoshenko, then raise glasses… because they got rid of their key competitor."

"I think that we should also talk about this so that we have less hypocrisy in our political life," the speaker said.
