Head of the Group of the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe (ALDE) in the European Parliament, Guy Verhofstadt, has handed the European Parliament's resolution to former prime minister Yulia Tymoshenko, who is undergoing treatment in Central Clinical Hospital No. 5 in Kharkiv.

"This is a strong resolution, supported by all political groups in the European Parliament. I handed her (Yulia Tymoshenko) this resolution, and she thanked all the political groups in the European Parliament for the fact that they do not slacken political pressure," he told reporters on Friday outside the hospital after a meeting with Tymoshenko.

In his opinion, the European Court of Human Rights should consider Tymoshenko’s case as soon as possible. "I believe that the ECHR is the best institution, which can state who is right and who is wrong," the European politician said.

Verhofstadt noted that the fate of the association with the EU is in the hands of the Ukrainian authorities. "I think it is in the hands of the Ukrainian authorities. If Ukraine is ready to comply with European values and European standards, since Tymoshenko’s case creates very serious problems, then the association can be adopted. Because in my opinion and in the opinion of many people, Ukraine belongs with the European family," he said.
