Public joint-stock company Avdiyivka Coke Plant (Donetsk region), part of Metinvest Group, which was fully disconnected from power on July 28 due to the damage of the only functioning power line due to armed hostilities, has been connected to power.

“On Tuesday, July 29, with joint efforts of DTEK specialists and coke
workers at Avdiyivka Coke Plant of Metinvest Group power supply was
resumed,” reads a press release of Metinvest.

The group said that the plan of gradual launch of technological equipment which was stopped for almost one day is introduced.

“At present one cannot rule out that the emergency situation could
repeat as only two out of four lines supplying power to the plant were
connected,” reads the press release.

As reported, if the term of disconnection of the coke-oven batteries
was more than 24 hours, it will be impossible to launch the batteries.

The normal scheme of power supply to Avdiyivka Coke foresees four 110
kV lines. A dangerous situation occurred due to the damage of three
high-tension power lines on July 21-22 when active armed hostilities
started near Avdiyivka. The plant was operating using only one of the
four required lines for three days – from July 22 to July 25. It took
two days to restore the second reserve line, although on July 26 it was
damaged again.

The Avdiyivka enterprise, one of the largest coking plants in Europe,
is a member of the Metinvest industrial group, whose major shareholder
is Ukrainian businessman Rinat Akhmetov.
