There are more registered cases of labour exploitation than sexual exploitation, the International Organization for Migration (IMO) in Ukraine has reported.

“From 2010 there were more cases of human trafficking aimed at labour
exploitation than for sexual exploitation. However, Ukrainian society
has got used to understanding human trafficking as meaning sexual
exploitation…The risks of being exploited for labour is underestimated
in our society,” IMO Press Secretary in Ukraine Varvara Zhluktenko said.

According to her, the organization helps people affected by human
trafficking to return to a normal life, providing them with legal,
psychological and medical aid. Since 2007 the organization has helped
3,000 people subject to labor exploitation.

“People affected by labor as well as sexual migration were exploited
mainly on the territory of the Russian Federation, while Poland holds
second place in terms of human trafficking, and Ukraine is third in this
rating,” Zhluktenko added.

Moreover, according to her, there was no growth in cases of sexual
and labour exploitation, or cases of forced child begging, due to the
holding of Euro 2012 in Ukraine.
