Officials from the Education, Science, Youth and Sports Ministry say that foreign students are attracted by moderate cost of higher education in Ukraine.

“Most of our higher education establishments have affordable prices
of education… and that’s what attracts foreign citizens,” Deputy
Director of the ministry’s Higher Education Department Mykola Fomenko
told a press conference in Kyiv on August 23.

He recalled that more than 50,000 foreign students studied at Ukrainian universities last year.

“This is the highest number over the years of Ukraine’s independence. And these figures are rising,” Fomenko said.

According to Fomenko, Ukraine has universities that could compete
with European higher education establishments, especially in terms of
training of specialists in mathematical and natural sciences,
engineering and technical specialties.

He also expressed hope that Ukrainian universities would appear in
the leading rankings of world universities in the near future.
