Yesterday morning, the Ukrainian Canadian Congress marked Holodomor Memorial Day in Canada with a special 11 a.m. service at Dormition of Mother of God Ukrainian Catholic Church on Cawthra Rd. Black flags flew to mark a genocide that many Canadians know nothing about. The Holodomor is quite simply, the famine genocide orchestrated by USSR dictator Joseph Stalin in the Ukraine in 1932-33. The word in Ukrainian means death by hunger. The Ukraine was known as the breadbasket of the Soviet Union, but the harvest of 1932 was bleak. Read the story here.
