You're reading: Monroe Evening News: Monroe couple to adopt Ukraine siblings

A Monroe couple is in the lengthy process of adopting two Ukrainian children through the Adopt-A-Waiting-Child organization.

Everett and Donna Houck are hoping for a pair of siblings, boys or girls, between the ages of 4 and 8.

They started the complex adoption process in February and expect to have the children home by October.

Everett, 58, and Donna, 45, each came to the decision to adopt after having raised children by previous marriages:

“I always wanted a large family,” said Donna, who has three sons in their 20s. “When I was growing up, I used to tell my mother I was going to have 10 kids. I had my three, but I always wanted more and it would be nice to give a child a home who doesn’t have a home. I always wanted to do foster care. That was always a thought.”
