You're reading: More than 40 percent of Ukrainians complain about declining living standards

An overwhelming majority of Ukrainians say that their standard of living has worsened or has not changed over the past 3 to 4 years, the Kyiv International Sociology Institute found after conducting a poll of 2,032 respondents from Feb. 8 to 17.

According to the poll results published on Tuesday, 43 percent of the respondents said their lives have worsened in the said period, 39 percent have not noticed any changes, and only 18 percent said their lives improved.

In terms of gender, 43.1 percent of men and 42 percent of women said their lives worsened, and for 17.1 percent of men and 18.9 percent of women they improved. In terms of age, 26 percent of respondents aged 18-29 see improvements in their lives, while among older people this figure is not more than 14 percent to 16 percent.

Relatively more people mentioned improvements in their lives in the eastern (20 percent) and southern (23 percent) parts of Ukraine, while in the western part this figure is only 14 Percent and in the central 16 percent.
