You're reading: Moscow: Committee for the Salvation of Ukraine to nominate opposition activist Oliynyk for president of Ukraine

The Committee for the Salvation of Ukraine, whose creation was announced at a press conference in Moscow on Aug. 3, believes Volodymyr Oliynyk, a Verkhovna Rada MP of previous convocations, should be nominated for the post of the country's president.

“We have made a decision to nominate Volodymyr Mykolayovich Oliynyk for the post of president of Ukraine,” the co-founders of the Committee for the Salvation of Ukraine said in their address to citizens of Ukraine issued at the press conference.

Oliynyk was leader of the deputy group For Peace and Stability in the Verkhovna Rada in May 2014 and spoke in favor of halting the conflict in Donbas and resuming relations with Russia.

The materials released at the press conference state that Oliynyk now sharply criticizes the current regime in Ukraine and is in radical opposition to it.
