You're reading: Motor Sich plans to supply new MS-500V engine for European helicopters

Public joint-stock company Motor Sich is mulling the possibility of supplying new MS-500V turboshaft engine of up to 950 horse power for European helicopters that will be assembled at production facilities in Poland as a part of cooperation with Poland's PZL Swidnik.

“Today, we’re discussing with our Polish partners the possibility of
equipping European helicopters that will be assembled as a part of
cooperation with Europeans in Poland with MS-500V engines,” a
representative of the top managers of the Ukrainian company has told
Interfax-Ukraine.

“The new MS-500V engine has every competitive feature. We designed it
for the new light Russian helicopters of Ansat type that being
assembled in Kazan,” he said.

“As you know, Helicopters of Russia decided to equip the Ansat with Canada’s PW-208K engines at the last moment,” he said.

“Today we resumed works on the certification of the MS-500V engine.
The receiving of the IAC certificate is planned for August,” he said.

In April 2014, Motor Sich started negotiations with Poland’s PZL
Swidnik on cooperation in joint assembly and modernization of
helicopters at production facilities in Poland.

In 2012, Motor Sich helicopter design bureau was founded.

In Nov. 2013, during the Ukrainian-Polish forum on cooperation in
the defense industry, Ukraine and Poland agreed on deepening production
and technological cooperation in the area.

Joint working groups for helicopter, aviation, tank and radar
segments selected pilot projects, the realization of which on the basis
of Ukrainian and Polish defense industrial companies is promising for
cooperation on the high-tech armament market of the NATO countries, and
which could be started in the near term.

According to the assessments of the two countries, the potential of
cooperation in the helicopter building area includes the creation of new
models of multipurpose helicopters of the Sokol family and the
modernization of multipurpose helicopters Mi-8/Mi-17 and Mi-24.
