Militants attempted to break through a cordon around Sloviansk in the Donetsk region on Friday near a blockpost towards Krasniy Lyman, Ukrainian National Guard Commander Stepan Poltorak said.
This blockpost has weak points due to its location, Poltorak told reporters on Friday. “We have foreseen this – an ambush was prepared, the attempt to break through towards the city of Krasny Lyman was repelled successfully, and the enemy sustained serious losses in terms on manpower and transport,” he said.
The attackers’ equipment is “quite modern but it did not help them,” Poltorak said.
The National Guard has already received enough equipment and arms, he said.
New Ukrainian equipment, in particular BTR-4E, was involved in repelling this attack, Ukrainian Interior Minister Arsen Avakov said.
