NATO Defense College Commandant Lieutenant General Arne Bard Dalhaug has said that the international security week demonstrates high level of cooperation between Ukraine and the alliance.

"The event, an international week which is taking place in Kyiv, is very important to NATO, as it demonstrates the level of cooperation between the alliance and Ukraine, which is a serious partner of NATO," he said during a press conference in Kyiv on Monday.

The NATO Defense College commandant said that events of this type of format are only held in Ukraine.

The 12th international week in Kyiv will take place from Feb. 6 until Feb. 10 as part of the working plan of the Ukraine-NATO military committee for 2011-2012.

For the first time this year, apart from for representatives from NATO’s defense college, representatives of the NATO college in Oberammergau will share with Ukrainian officers experience in preparing for and holding military operations in NATO’s missions.

The acting head of the National Defense University of Ukraine, Lieutenant-General Vasyl Telelym, said that the international week is aimed at increasing the level of awareness of students and lecturers of the university, and representatives of military higher education establishments of the Armed Forces of Ukraine about NATO’s activity and cooperation between the alliance and the Ukrainian army.

During lectures, seminars, discussions participants of the international week will have an opportunity to learn information from experienced lecturers and officials from NATO’s headquarters in Brussels that participate in formation of the alliance’s policy.
