The National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) plans to start stress tests of next 40 banks from May 2016, one of the participants of the meeting of NBU Governor Valeriya Gontareva with bankers told Interfax-Ukraine on Tuesday.

“An NBU resolution on stress tests of next 40 banks has been signed. It is planned to start from May,” the source said.

The source also said that the central bank head said that the regulator will start gradually lifting currency restrictions when Ukraine received a new tranche from the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

Cabinet resolution No. 37 was also actively discussed at the meeting. The resolution sharply toughens the criteria for selecting banks to pay salaries to employees of budget-funded organizations, pensions and social aid. As reported, it was criticized by bankers for the creation of preferences for state-managed banks.

The source said that the NBU plans to back the revoking of the resolution. The regulator has drawn up its own criteria that were not taken into account in this document.
