You're reading: Nemyria: Resolution of European Parliament is last warning for Yanukovych

The recent resolution by the European Parliament on Ukraine, which condemns the jailing of former Premier Yulia Tymoshenko, is a last warning for Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych, Deputy Head of the Batkivschyna party and former Deputy Premier Hryhoriy Nemyria has said.

"The resolution of the European Parliament represents support for the European aspirations and prospects for the Ukrainian public and, at the same time, is a last warning for Yanukovych and his regime concerning all and full responsibility for the choice they are making: the choice between European integration and isolation," the press service of the Batkivschyna party quoted Nemyria as saying.

Nemyria said the resolution [shows the legal] processes against former premier Yulia Tymoshenko and other leaders of the opposition who are former members of her government are unambiguously seen as violations of human rights, that they are politically motivated and that they have nothing in common with the supremacy of the law.

Moreover, demands to change the situation for better are stipulated by the resolution, the politician said.

The MP noted that these demands mean a halt to politically motivated processes, ensuring a full political life for Tymoshenko and other leaders of opposition, and in particular, ensuring they can participate in the parliamentary elections next year.

He also noted that the resolution of the European parliament was supported by all political groups, which shows there is consensus at the highest level in the European Union concerning the situation in Ukraine.

"We hope that such legibility, unambiguousness and unanimity of the European Parliament is taken seriously at the highest level in Ukraine, as it’s inadmissible to hold Ukrainian society hostage for the sake of achieving selfish, politically narrow aims," Nemyria said.
