A new railway track, bypassing the bridge across the Kalchyk river which was destroyed in a terrorist attack, has connected steel mills in Mariupol with the maritime merchant port located there, Metinvest has reported.

“Today, the first test rolling stock has been launched on the backup track – a diesel locomotive with fifteen loaded wagons tested the new railway. The new line is ready for operation. The railroad track was Metinvest press release.

According to the press release, the length of the new single-track railway line is 1,138 meters. In addition, a new pedestrian level crossing was built for residents of nearby houses, with roads for motor vehicles having been restored.

“The backup track has been built. Now we will receive raw materials and ship finished products through the seaport. I’d like to note that during the first days trains will run on the new track only during the day, and with the speed not exceeding 20 km/h. This is necessary for shrinkage of soil under the railway track, after the passage of freight trains,” Illich Steel Mill CEO Yuriy Zinchenko stressed.
