LVIV – A new terminal at Lviv Airport has been put into trial operation, the head of the directorate for the construction of Euro 2012 facilities in Lviv, Volodymyr Shadrin, has said.

"We’ve finished the construction of the terminal’s first stage and put it into trial operation. The terminal will start working at full capacity on March 25 next year, when aircraft will switch to the summer schedule," he told reporters on Wednesday.

Shadrin said that the new terminal had a capacity of 2,000 passengers per hour, or 20,000 passengers per day.

He said that a master plan for the airport’s development until 2020, according to which the capacity of the new terminal could grow up to 3,600 passengers per hour, had already been approved and that Lviv airport could become one of Europe’s largest airports.

At the same time, he said a decision on the old terminal would be made by Lviv City Council, as it is the owner of that facility.

Lviv Airport has a runway of 2,510 meters long and 45 meters wide. The airfield can service Il-62, Il-76, Tu-154, Boeing 737 and Airbus A320 aircraft with restrictions, and aircraft of lower classes without restrictions.
