You're reading: NSDC denies Russian media reports of shelling of Makiyivka by Ukrainian army

The Zvezda Russian Television and Radio Company of the Russian Armed Forces fabricated a video showing an alleged missile strike by the Ukrainian army on the town of Makiyivka in Donetsk region using footage taken in 2013 in Baikonur (Kazakhstan), the information and analytical center of the Ukrainian National Security and Defense Council (NSDC) has reported.

According to the report, the video on the Russian television channel was released early on Aug. 21. It stated that the Ukrainian Armed Forces were bombing the town allegedly to liberate it ahead of Ukrainian Independence Day. The video shows a rocket exploding near residential buildings, with the blast smashing windows in the room from which the scene was filmed. Comments on the video say that the explosion occurred in Makiyivka and that a rocket was allegedly fired from the Tochka-U complex of the Ukrainian army.

According to the information and analytical center, video of the explosion of a Russian rocket in Baikonur (Kazakhstan) on July 2, 2013 was used to fabricate the video.
