You're reading: Number of mass rallies to be held in Kyiv on Unity Day

Both opposition and government supporters will hold mass rallies to mark the Day of Unity of Ukraine in Kyiv on Jan. 22.

The press service of Kyiv City State Administration told Interfax-Ukraine on Thursday that seven parties and non-governmental organizations have applied to hold mass events in the capital on the occasion of the Day of Unity.

The Front for Change Party is planning to hold a procession from Sofiyska Square to Volodymyrska Street to the monuments to Mykhailo Hrushevsky and Taras Shevchenko, the Our Ukraine Party will hold a rally on Sofiyska Square, and the Batkivschyna Party will hold a rally on Independence Square.

The Batkivschyna Party also submitted an application to hold a procession on the route of the Front for Change Party’s procession.

The Young Regions youth organization is planning to hold an event near the Ukraine Palace to mark Day of Unity. It is expected that Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych will attend this event.

The Spas Cossack organization applied to hold an event on Paton Bridge.

The Christian Ukraine organization will pray for the unity of Ukraine on Sofiyska Square.

The Tavriysky Charity Fund will hold a music marathon on Independence Square.
