The official suppliers of IT goods and consumer electronics in Ukraine are concerned about the increase in the volume of illegal imports of these products and find it necessary to take measures to reduce them.

The issue was discussed at the round table “Shadow imports of IT goods and consumer electronics: major schemes and the search for ways of counteraction” in Kyiv.

“It is a very important moment today, and the figure of simultaneous imports of IT products of 15-20 percent is a critical point. If nothing is done right now, I am not sure in six months this figure won’t reach 40-50 percent, and the amount of VAT shortage won’t be counted not in hundreds of millions of hryvnias but in billions,” Lenovo representative in Ukraine Taras Dzhamalov said.

Board member of the Association of Information Technology Enterprises of Ukraine, Mykola Fabro supported his opinion, adding that in a number of product groups the share of parallel imports is much higher than 25 percent. In particular, he noted the professional photo segment, in which the share of parallel imports, as shown by comparative data from analytical agencies, has already exceeded 50%.

According to participants in the round table, the question of shadow imports in the TV segment is equally problematic.
