You're reading: One girl killed, several injured as drunk driver slams into people gathered near Luhansk’s Christmas tree

Under the influence of alcohol, a 1982-born resident of Ukraine’s eastern city of Luhansk drove his Nissan Tiida into a square in the city where the Christmas tree was standing, injuring ten people and killing one girl born in 1984.

An Interfax-Ukraine correspondent at the scene reported that an official from the central public relations department of Ukraine’s Interior Ministry in Luhansk told him that the car ran into a crowd of people celebrating old New Year Day, from the Gregorian calendar.

All insured people were taken to several hospitals. According to tentative data, seven people were taken to the Luhansk regional hospital. Another two victims were taken to Luhansk regional hospital for children.
