One person was killed and three people injured as a result of fire at Vuhlehirska Thermal Power Plant operated by Public Joint Stock Company Centrenergo (Svitlodarsk, Donetsk region). 

“As of 1800, one person was killed and three more injured,” the press service of the State Emergency Situations Service of Ukraine told Interfax-Ukraine.

The service said that fire covered the roof of the building around 1,500 square meters in area.

At the same time, the service did not inform about the state of health of those injured.

According to the State Emergency Situations Service, equipment caught fire at the second unit of the thermal power plant at 1515 on Friday.

The service’s employees rescued 10 people from the smoke-filled premises.

“Some 27 fire appliances owned by the main department of the State Emergency Situations Service in Donetsk region were used to put off the fire,” reads the statement.

Centrenergo operates the Vuhlehirska, Zmiyivska and Trypilska thermal power plants, which have a total installed capacity of 7.55 GW.

The Energy Company of Ukraine owns a 78.29% stake in the company, other companies hold a 20.38% stake and individuals a 1.33% stake.

The State Property Fund plans in 2013 to put a 53.289% stake in Centrenergo up for sale.
