MOSCOW - Starting from Feb. 7, the Russian consumer rights watchdog will impose a ban on imports of cheese produced by some Ukrainian companies that have taken an unconstructive position regarding a solution to problems surrounding the quality of this product, Rospotrebnadzor head and Russia's chief epidemiologist Gennady Onishchenko told Interfax.

"It [the producers’ position] allows us to impose a ban on a whole range of manufacturers whose groups of so-called cheese products account for the largest number of negative findings," he said.

The more samples of Ukrainian-made cheese are examined, the more "negative findings" are reported, Onishchenko said.

A total of 178 samples of these products were selected as a result of checks conducted in 62 Russian regions, the official said.

Of them, 38 samples failed to meet the norms "for the fatty acid composition of the fat share in products," he added.
