OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media Dunja Mijatovic is criticizing a decision of Petro Poroshenko to keep in ownership the Fifth Channel after he is elected Ukrainian president, proposing instead to guarantee the public service broadcasting (PSB) to Ukrainians.

“TV should be the first asset Poroshenko sells as president,” Mijatovic wrote in her Twitter blog.

“Instead of keeping TV, new President should make sure there is a professional PSB for all citizens of Ukraine,” Mijatovic said.

As reported, earlier Poroshenko confirmed his plans to sell his business, apart from Fifth Channel, after running the post of Ukrainian president.

He said that the channel had never been sold and will be never sold in the future.

The Ukrainian parliament on April 17 passed a law on public TV and radio broadcasting in Ukraine, which Acting President Oleksandr Turchynov signed on May 13.
