You're reading: Over Hr 2 billion to be invested in development of Kyiv tourism within three years

Hr 2.247 billion will be allocated for the development of tourism in Kyiv by 2015, including Hr 23.478 million from the city budget.

This is stipulated in the city’s targeted program for tourism development
until 2015, which was approved at a meeting of Kyiv City Council on
Thursday.

“The program foresees a number of measures connected to tourism development
in Kyiv, in particular, participation in the most important international
exhibitions, the organization of promo and press tours, and the holding of
annual events. For example, this New Year we want to organize a Christmas fair
as all European capitals do, and hold an exhibition of the ice figures at
Spivoche Pole (Singing Field). We’re planning to significantly increase the
number of tourists,” first deputy head of Kyiv City State Administration
Oleksandr Mazurchak said.

He also noted that now they are holding talks with the leadership of the
capital’s hotels to organize weekend tours, during which tourists could visit
Kyiv for half the price.

Moreover, implementation of the program will favour the creation of up to
3,500 extra jobs and bring in about Hr 600 million in extra revenues to the
budget.
