You're reading: PACE President calls on all sides to return to Geneva agreements

President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) Anne Brasseur expresses concern over new violence in Ukraine and calls on all sides to urgently de-escalate the situation and return to the agreements reached in Geneva on April 17, 2014.

“I am extremely concerned by the information coming from Ukraine about the resumption of violence, including in the city of Sloviansk,” she said in a statement on Saturday.

“I call on all sides to urgently de-escalate the situation and end all violent or provocative actions and return to what was agreed in Geneva, particularly as regards the disarmament of illegal armed groups currently active in Ukraine,” she said.

In her words, today Ukraine could be protected only if the democratic world joins hands, as it was when addressing the Chornobyl nuclear disaster, which happened in Ukraine in 1986.
