The Party of Regions of Ukraine has dismissed the possibility of resolving the political crisis in the country by force.

“I have always believed that the force scenario is impossible,” Oleksandr Yefremov, the head of the Party of Regions’ parliamentary faction, said to Interfax after taking part in a pro-government rally on European Square in Kyiv on Saturday.

The Berkut riot police dispersed students rallying in support for Ukraine’s integration with Europe on Independence Square in Kyiv in the early hours of November 30.

Several thousands of law enforcement troops were again deployed on Independence Square early on November 11 to try to oust the protesters from the square and dismantle the barricades. The Interior Ministry later explained these steps by the need to help municipal utility services to decorate the square before the New Year’s and Christmas holidays.
