Poland will meet its obligations concerning reverse gas supplies to Ukraine, Speaker of the Polish Senate Bogdan Borusewicz said.

“Poland will observe its obligations and we will supply our gas to Ukraine in the future,” he said during a meeting between the chairman of Ukraine’s Verkhovna Rada, Alexander Turchinov, and the heads of European parliaments in Kyiv on Friday.

In addition, Borusewicz said that Poland has large reserves of coal and that the two countries should discuss the possibility of cooperating in this field. “We have large reserves of coal, about 10 million tonnes, and I know that you have problems with coal. And I think that we should discuss this matter,” he said.

Ukraine began reverse gas supplies from Poland in Dec. 2012. In Q1 2014, the supplies were halted, but in April they were again resumed. The throughput capacity of Ukraine’s gas transport system to Poland is 4 million cubic meters a day.
