You're reading: Police conduct pre-trial investigation into gas explosion at Kyiv restaurant

The investigation unit of the Pecherske district department of the Ukrainian Interior Ministry's main office in Kyiv has included the explosion of a gas cylinder at the Aprel restaurant in Kyiv on February 17 in the unified register of pre-trial investigations, the office's press service reported on Monday.

Criminal proceedings were launched on the grounds of a crime envisaged by Part 1, Article 271 of the Criminal Code (the violation of the provisions of legislative and other regulatory acts on labor protection by officials of enterprises, institutions, organizations or business entities if this violation caused harm to the health of victims). This article envisages a fine of 50 nontaxable minimum incomes, or correctional labor for up to two years, or imprisonment for the same term.

As reported, a gas cylinder exploded and triggered a fire at a restaurant in central Kyiv at 1507 on Sunday. The blast damaged about 130 square meters of the slab between the basement and the first floor, one floor slab was destroyed, and several load-bearing walls in the basement were partially damaged.

Eleven employees of the restaurant were injured in the accident, with three of them sustaining 80% burns to their bodies and five sustaining various injuries, bruises and minor burns.
