The European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) may consider the case against former Prime Minister of Ukraine Yulia Tymoshenko before cassation in Ukraine, Director of the Penta Center for Applied Political Studies Volodymyr Fesenko has said.

"I do not rule out that the Europeans may consider Tymoshenko’s case before the cassation appeal [in Ukraine], as this is a high-profile case," he said at a press conference in Kyiv.

Fesenko also noted that, as a rule, the ECHR hears cases only after they have gone through courts of all levels in the country.

"A new stage of a tactical struggle over Tymoshenko’s case starts now in connection with this case being considered in the ECHR," the analyst said.

He suggested that representatives of Ukraine’s judicial authorities might drag out consideration of a cassation appeal in this case. "Certain tactical struggle will take place here. I guess that the hearing of the cassation may be dragged out to certain extent to delay the consideration of Tymoshenko’s case in the European Court," Fesenko said.
