Economic issues and problems of ownership are the main reasons for the public to participate in mass protests, according to a survey carried out by the Social Research Center at the National University of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy from September 29.

According the monitoring of the center, on average a total of 55 events per week take place in Ukraine that may be classified as mass protest actions. But after the implementation of the cabinet resolution on banning mass events throughout Ukraine, a total of 35 events per week were registered.

Most often Ukrainians organized mass protest actions in connection with economic issues (64 events, or 25%) and problems of ownership (43 events, or 17%).

Ideological issues were ranked third (40 events, or 15%), in particular, the issues of joining NATO, the status of the Russian language, the activities of left- and right-wing political groups, etc.)

The most active cities in terms of public protests are Kyiv, Kharkiv, Odesa, Ternopil, along with cities in Crimea. The least active are Khmelnytsky, Kherson and Sumy.
