Every tenth Ukrainian call himself a Soviet man, citizen of the former Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (USSR), according to the results of the research conducted by Research & Branding Group company on the present state of the interethnic relations in Ukraine.

According to the press release, each second citizen of Ukraine, despite his national affiliation, first of all, calls himself Ukrainian, a citizen of Ukraine (49%), while every fourth identifies himself with his residential area (27%).

At the same time, each tenth Ukrainian considers himself to be a Soviet person, citizen of the former USSR (9%), and every twentieth citizen, first of all identifies himself a citizen of his region (5%) or a representative of his nationality (5%).

Moreover, a major part of Ukrainians today estimates ethnic relations in the country as good and tolerant (44%). A third part of the respondents say that ethnic relations in Ukraine equally good and bad (30%). In general, 14% of respondents say ethnic relations in Ukraine in general are tense.

However, the majority of Ukrainians say serious national conflicts are impossible (60%), while 28% of those polled have the opposite point of view.

Most Ukrainian citizens have a neutral estimation of the international relations policy in Ukraine (48%). In general, positive estimations of state policy in the international relations sphere exceed negative ones (25% against 13%).

The information was collected from September 14 to September 25, 2012 by the method of the personal interview in 24 regions of Ukraine, Crimean, Kyiv and Sevastopol. 3,114 people were polled. The poll’s margin of error is +-2%.
