You're reading: Poll: One in four Ukrainians ready to vote for Yanukovych in presidential elections

A quarter of Ukrainians would vote for incumbent President Viktor Yanukovych if the presidential elections were held this Sunday, according to a survey conducted by Research & Branding Group in December 2013.

According to the survey, one in four Ukrainians (25 percent) would vote for
Yanukovych, 14 percent of voters are ready to support UDAR Party leader Vitali
Klitschko, and 8 percent each former Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko and MP
Petro Poroshenko. Five percent would vote for Batkivschyna faction
leader Arseniy Yatseniuk, and 4 percent each would support Svoboda leader Oleh
Tiahnybok and Communist Party leader Petro Symonenko.

About half of Ukrainians (47 percent) generally have a positive view of
agreements signed by Yanukovych in Moscow regarding a reduction in the
gas price and the provision of a Russian loan to Ukraine, while the
opposite view is held by 27 percent of respondents, and nearly one in five
respondents (19 percent) reacted indifferently to the agreements with Russia.

Research & Branding Group conducted the survey on the assessment
of the current situation in the country from December 23 to December 27.
Data was collected through personal interviews in 24 regions in
Ukraine, Crimea, Kyiv and Sevastopol. Respondents were selected by quota
sample representing the adult population by place of residence
(region), gender and age. The sample consists of 2,079 persons. The
expected average margin of error is 2.2 percent.
