An increases in Kyiv's subway fare is imminent, although the city's authorities will delay this increase as long as possible, Head of Kyiv City Administration Oleksandr Popov said, the Segodnya newspaper has reported.

“Today an increase in [subway] fares is about to happen, and I will
say if we’ll manage to delay it when I see the figures,” he said.

He also told about the plans of the development of Kyiv’s subway, in
particular, about the building of a subway line to the Vynohradar
residential district.

“This is the continuation of a subway line – three stations are to be
built there. They could be ready in 2016. The problem is that a depot
has to be built there, and this costs Hr 1 billion. It would have been
quicker without it,” he said.

Popov said that the top priority for Kyiv authorities is the extension of the subway network to Troyeschyna district.

“Next year we’ll sink the tunneling shields in Podil district. First
we’ll build five stations, and there will be 12 stations at all. Thanks
to a public private partnership, we will realize the project in four
years. We’ll build a station at Novobilychi, and thus we’ll take a large
flow of people entering the city,” he said.

Popov also commented on the opening of the Lvivska Brama subway
station. He said that the building of the station would start next year.

“We’ll be able to finish it in two years – there are hard layers, a
lot of underground water, and we’ll have to freeze soil. We’ll settle
the issue with entrances to the surface. We’ll agree on it, and we’ll
explain things to those who do not want to agree,” he said.
