Head of Kyiv City State Administration Oleksandr Popov and Ambassador of Japan to Ukraine Toichi Sakata met to discuss the prospects of cooperation, and in particular participation of Japanese businesses in the implementation of private-public partnership projects aimed at development of the transport infrastructure in Kyiv.
“I am happy that soon we are starting the implementation of a very
important joint project that will allow us to modernize significantly
the rolling stock of Kyiv subway. In fact, I mean a complete
modernization of subway cars using the latest technologies. The project
will be implemented under the provisions of the Kyoto Protocol. We are
getting ready for tenders. Actually, I think that it’s only a part of
our cooperation,” Popov said.
In turn, Sakata noted that Japanese businessmen are interested in
cooperation with Kyiv as one of the most prospective cities in Eastern
The ambassador added that the Japanese government supports
cooperation between the country’s private sector and the capital of
Sakata also congratulated Popov on the successful completion of the Euro 2012 European Football Championship.
