The organization of events to mark the 20th Independence Day of Ukraine will cost Kyiv about Hr 6 million, including Hr 1.5 million from the city budget, while the rest of funds would be granted by sponsors, Head of Kyiv City State Administration Oleksandr Popov has said.

At a press conference on August 19, Popov said that many events to celebrate Independence Day would be held in Kyiv. Most of those events are to take place from the intersection of Khreschatyk Street with Bohdan Khmelnytsky Street to European Square.

In particular, a 70-meter long and three-meter high wall for a painting contest dedicated to the independence of Ukraine are to be installed in the capital’s central street.

A main stage for the concerts will be installed on the Independence Square, and another stage will be placed near the mayor’s office.

A concert by about 200 talented children will take place on the stage near the mayor’s office, and in the afternoon a concert by the participants of TV shows will be held there.

In the evening all events will be held on the central stage, where at 1700 a brass bands parade will start, after which a concert of pop stars, including Sofia Rotaru, Ruslana, and Jamala, will be held.

The celebration will be crowned by a military salute of 20 salvoes and big fireworks.

In addition, a folklore concert on the initiative of the First National Channel is to be held at Sofiyska Square, and a choral singing festival is to take place on Mykhailivska Square at the initiative of Ukraine’s Culture Ministry.
