PARIS – President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko said he hopes that international community would help to settle the conflict in Donbas.

Delivering a speech at the 21st session of the Conference of the Parties (COP) to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, he said that settlement of the conflict in Donbas would help the state to reach a progress in fulfillment of its commitments on ecology protection.

“However, to be able to undertake a more ambitious target we need to settle the conflict in Donbas – by peaceful means and in strict compliance with the Minsk agreements. Here we rely on our partners, in particular France and Germany, and the European Union in general. We rely on our transatlantic solidarity,” Poroshenko stressed.

Besides, the president also mentioned another crucial issue to be addressed, that is to secure sufficient finance resources for reconstruction of Donbas.

“These resources can be viewed as an investment in tackling climate change. Because the new Ukrainian Donbas should be of a focus in energy efficiency,” the head of state said.
