Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko during a working visit to the United States discussed with Australian Foreign Minister Julie Bishop the issue of bringing to justice those responsible for the crash of the Malaysia Airlines MH17 flight.

“They expressed a common position that terrorist acts cannot stay unpunished,” the Ukrainian president’s press service reported.

The Ukrainian president thanked the Australian foreign minister for her country’s firm and consistent position as regards support for territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence of Ukraine. He also thanked the Australian government for a close interaction with Ukraine in the international arena.

The parties agreed that sanctions against Russia should stay in place until full implementation of the Minsk agreements, the presidential press service reported.

They also noted the importance of releasing Nadia Savchenko and other Ukrainians illegally held in Russian prisons.

Poroshenko invited Prime Minister of Australia Malcolm Turnbull to visit Ukraine at his convenience.
