Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has congratulated Metropolitan Onufriy on his election as head of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (Moscow Patriarchate).

The presidential press service reported on Wednesday evening, Aug. 13
Poroshenko hopes that “the achievements of Ukrainian Orthodoxy will
multiply” under Metropolitan Onufriy.

“I am convinced that your efforts will be dedicated to further
reviving the spiritual heritage of the Church, strengthening its moral
authority and enhancing the social services of the Church for the sake
of securing peace and reconciliation,” the president said.

Poroshenko wished Metropolitan Onufriy good health, inspiration and
blessing in his high mission “for the benefit of all faithful people and
the prosperity of Ukraine.”
