Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has ordered the Ukrainian Ambassador to the U.S. Valeriy Chaly to work on the issue of the treatment and placement of Ukrainian soldiers wounded in the war zone in the U.S.

“The president ordered that Ukrainian Ambassador to the U.S. Valeriy Chaly to keep the issue of the rehabilitation of Colonel Hordiychuk under control and discuss the conditions of treatment and placement of Ukrainian servicemen that, within the realization of the corresponding Agreement between defense establishments of two countries, will come to the U.S. for rehabilitation after sustaining serious injures in the war zone,” the press service of the president reported on the results of Poroshenko’s telephone conversation with Hero of Ukraine, Colonel Ihor Hordiychuk, who’s been treated in the U.S. for nearly half a year.

Poroshenko asked the Hordiychuk about how he was being treated, his rehabilitation, and the level of support he receives from Ukrainian facilities.

“The Colonel thanked the President of Ukraine, the Defense Ministry and the Ukrainian embassy in the U.S. for their personal attention. Hordiychuk noted that the American hospital has unique possibilities for rehabilitation, and his rehabilitation was on schedule. His intention is to come back to Ukraine and to military service as soon as possible after the planned treatment is over,” the report said.

Hordiychuk led a special forces unit fighting behind enemy lines and his intelligence officers had control over Saur-Mohyla for 12 days in August 2014.
